We’ve lost our moorings. The cultural, religious, and tribal guideposts that have served to constrain and guide human behavior are rapidly fading under the onslaught of globalization, capitalism and mass marketing. Attempts to reconcile the contradictions in these old codes of conduct to a modern reality have lead to attempts, often violent, to hold onto the past by denying and fighting social or scientific progress; an upsurge in religious participation as people flock to perceived stability, while attempting to ignore the obvious contradictions between ancient edicts and modern society; or rejection of these outmoded codes of conduct, without a suitable replacement, with hopelessness, depression, or meaningless self indulgence as the result.
There is an alternative. Modern Spiritualism is a philosophy for living a good, productive and happy life without the handicaps and contradictions that come from trying to adhere to rigid dogma and an irrational belief system.
